Fashion face off – Bollywood vs Hollywood

May be it’s because the FIFA World Cup is almost upon us, or may be I’m all amped up from ICL T20 series- either way I feel a showdown coming on. And since the Met Gala took place this week, hot on the heals of the Indian International Film Awards (IFFA), what better excuse for a bit of healthy competition? Pitting Hollywood against Bollywood, read on to see how I rated the looks and found a champion…

All that’s Gilded…

…in this case is most definitely gold. Leighton Meester in Emilio Pucci and Vaani Kapoor in Raakesh Aggarvwal were the epitome of boho-chic in these strikingly similar gowns. These?beauties kept their looks fairly relaxed and let their gowns do the talking, and boy did they make a statement!?They were the stand-out looks from both events in my opinion- 1 all.

Thigh’s the Limit…

…for both Rita Ora in Donna Karan and Gauhar Khan in Mandira Wirk. Whilst Rita’s gown causes no offence, I’m afraid the same can’t be said for say her choice of footwear. So, I’m going to have to give this one to Gauhar; Hollywood -1, Bollywood-2.

Black to basics…

Beyonce caused quite a stir amongst the fashion-frat, in this sheer beaded creation by Givenchy. Compared to her usual red carpet choices this look was toned-down brilliance. Bipasha in Rocky S stuck to a more conventional black gown, but keeping her hair down she managed to keep her look contemporary. Still Queen Bey’s pipped Bip to the post on this one, so it’s two all.

Bead me over…

Sweethearts in their respective Woods- both starlets looked stunning in all over beaded numbers, Blake Lively in Gucci Premier and Deepika Padukone in Sabyasachi. Another point each; 3 a piece.

In the red…

Now that wedding season is upon us we’re seeing a lot of red lenghas, saris and anarkalis, but it’s always great too see on the red/ green carpets too. Anne Hathaway wore Calvin Klein; Deepika Padukone was in Zuhair Murad, for me Deepika is the clear winner in this category; Hollywood-3, Bollywood -4.

Plunging in…

There are few fashion faux-pas worse than excess “boobage” on the red carpet- so when it’s done right, it should be applauded. Georgia May Jaggger in ?Thierry Mugler and Kareena Kapoor in Georgio Armani- both wore sleek black silhouettes with a plunging neckline, both tastefully done. Another one that’s too close to call; Hollywood -4, Bollywood -5.

Demure dames…

Both ladies went for sophisticated look; Amber Heard in Giambattista Valli and Priyanka Chopra in Monique Lhullier. Delicate embellishment on a soft pink hue makes for old school glamour. Another toughie, but I’m going to give this one to Priyanka; Hollywood -4, Bollywood -6

The great romantics…

Lace and champagne shades made for a winning formula for both Jessica Alba in Diane Von Furstenberg and Nimrat Kaur in Vikram Phadnis. Love Nimrat’s styling more specifically the loose curls with the scarlet lips, but her sari went just a touch too far on the old gold trim- so this one goes to Jessica.

The final scores are in; Hollywood -5, Bollywood -6- and we have a winner! It seems Bollywood’s Hollywood moment paid off, no doubt I’ll be bringing you more hot Bollywood fashion from the green carpet very soon!
